Most of the projects I encounter deal with defacement and (or) deterioration. Often times
either of these are inevitable but it is always important to keep the integrity of the piece
and if possible improve it's longevity. Here are some samples of work restored.
These are some examples of aerosal and marker
tags. Some of these tags were removed using
chemicals others had to have the area repainted.
At times when the paint is exposed to the
elements discoloration will occur where you would
have to adjust the intensity of colors to match the
rest of the mural.
These are samples of works in high traffic
areas where if constantly tagged and not
repaired the amount of graffiti will increase
and overall respect for the mural of the mural
will cease.
On this mural contractors replaced the railing
at the top of the mural thus breaking away
concrete which was also part of the base for
the mural.
The area had to be patched with concrete,
sealed with masonry primer, and re coated
with a gel/ gesso mixture before repainting.
At times deterioration may occur by the
elements but faulty preparation of a surface or
using incorrect materials can extremely speed
up this process. In this murals case the wrong
type of wood panels were used which caused
warping, lifting, and separation of the wood.
This caused the seal between the paint and
the wood to break allowing moisture to get
between causing it to deteriorate.
In an instance like this the panels had to be
removed and work on out of a studio.
